Mapmakers drew dragons, sea serpents and one-footed men in the places they had not been. This course asks what those drawings were actually for, which turns out to be a much better question than whether people believed them. You will learn to read a map as an argument made by someone with interests, and you will follow that same habit of description from the parchment margin to places where it was used on real people.
