Croquet: How to Play, How to Think, and How to Build in the Sport

by bam

Croquet is not a garden pastime with a mallet. It is a tactical game, closer to billiards or chess than to badminton, with one of the lowest barriers to entry and the most reachable competitive ladder in world sport. This course teaches you to actually play and think: the three codified games that share the name (Golf Croquet and Association Croquet under the World Croquet Federation; American Six-Wicket under the USCA), how a turn works in each, break-building, wiring, deadness, and the tactics that decide games. Then it does the part a normal croquet course skips: the history you can actually verify (and the beloved stories that fall apart when you check them), how leagues and handicaps work, and the genuine openings for an amateur or an entrepreneur, starting a club, coaching, courts and turf, equipment, tournaments, and a world championship whose entire field is under 100 players. Every rule cited comes from the governing body's own current rulebook. Where a rule number does not exist, this course says so instead of inventing one.
